[Smack's Video Opium: DJ Hero x Kick-Ass x More

DJ Hero Intro

DJ Hero's been out and no, I have yet to get my hands on it. Now I'm not really much of a fan of the Guitar Hero series (only because I don't have it) but with a diverse collection of music from the likes of Pac, Moterhead, The Jackson 5, Kid Cudi, and others - and not to mention that Jay-Z and Eminem personally had a hand in it - that was enough to make me want this. This intro however only signifies how dope this game really must be. One day, I will know. One day...

Kick-Ass - Teaser Trailer

And now a movie adaptaption of a comic book series that ain't even finished the storyline the actual film is based off of. Since its release, I've been a fan of the ultra violent coming to age (HA!) series penned by Mark Miller and illustrated (with awesome) by John Romita Jr. So to have a movie that keeps in tone with the actual series (no sissies in the movie. Not if it's R-Rated), then I'm all for it. HOPEFULLY though, the last issue of the series will be out well before the movie is released. Hopefully.

Jared Evan - "Frozen" (directed by Rik Cordero)

Rik Cordero is steadily becoming one of my favorite video directors in the game right now and this video just helps proves. Inspired by the cult French film 13 Tazameti, the starking visuals and concepts go well along with Jared Evan's haunting song.

(Sidenote: Hollywoood's making a remake of the movie....starring 50 Cent and Jason Stratham.) That is all.)

BONUS:
Here's the trailer for the actual film.

BONUS: Inking 101 with Chris Houghton!

My good friend and fellow artist extraordinaire Chris Houghton has been doing his thing lately with his comic series Reed Gunther. So recently (ahem, this morning actually) he finally allowed the normies to take a view on how he does the magical things that he does with the art.

And why yes, this does cause me to have a bit of jealousy. Don't worry. Chris already is well aware of that.

Well that's my spill. Now back to your regulary scheduled revolutionary programming.
....I'll be over here watching How I Met Your Mother tho. It's a funny show. It's not for girls....shut up.

Knowledge from the West!!

(sorry for blurry pic taken on my phone)

I got a chance to see Dr. Cornel West speak at Winston Salem State University, it was the most amazing experience that I've had in a while. Dr. West spoke on topics like hip hop, president Obama, black identity and life. For those who haven't had the chance to hear him speak it was very insightful and entertaining.
Dr. West is a very deep brotha and very entertaining with his innuendos and movements. He talked briefly about how hip hop has been saturated with non-political and unconscious rappers because of its main consumers. He said the main consumers of hip hop music now would rather listen to Soulda Boy then KRS-One or Talib Kweli. That's a hard pill to swallow when you think about how much Hip Hop has influenced our culture and now its being taken over by whoever.
I can say I'm truly happy that I got see and hear one of the most influential black scholars of our time. Its was crazy experience when you see brotha West in the Matrix then you see him in person kind of surreal, but it lets me know I'm on the right track. Until next time my fellow revolutionaries....Peace and Knowledge (my Afrocentric moment for the week)

As a supporter and what he and fellow BLAT! Pack associate PHILTHY have been doing on the music scene lately, here's a treat for y'all. Here's the street single "Black Nationalists" (f. PHILTHY) off of the homie JYoung The General's upcoming project Jahshua 1:6. So why NOT give y'all a chance for a song that goes PERFECTLY for the Revolutionary Times? Do yourself a favor and download it immediately!

And why yes, I DID happen to do the cover.

Quote of the month

War for Riches...
"I spent 33 years in the Marines. Most of my time being a high-class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer for capitalism.”

Speechless...the Cypher

SMACK! EDIT:
Damn you, Howard! I was just about to post this! *walks off in frustrated midget anger*

xX Inner Peace Xx

After a month long hiatus reading Noam Chomsky and listening to black keys...I'm back and more determined than every to shake up the "ESTABLISHMENT"!!!

The Colbert ReportMon - Thurs 11:30pm / 10:30c
The RZA

Colbert Report Full EpisodesPolitical HumorReligion

The RZA from the Wu-Tang clan just recently released his book "The Tao of Wu". I saw this interview via ghettomanga, so being a fan of the Wu I had to go pick it up. The book was very insightful, RZA gives a eloquent yet rigid look into his spirituality with his amazing stories. After demolishing the book, my view on faith and its practice has changed. Its something that shouldn't be placed upon you by fear (which is part of my reasoning for not going to church), but showed to you as a way of life....ahh meditation here we come!!!

Surprisingly enough the RZA gives out some deep thought into religion, materialism, society and life in general. So if you don't have your copy I suggest you go out and pick it up.

...Thank Allah, God, Buddha, Gandhi and whoever for being in the right place at the right time. I went to Barnes and Nobel to pick up "The Tao of Wu" and ran across a book I've been looking for for over 2 years "Revolutionary Suicide". Yes the infamous book by Huey P. Newton, so I'll be starting that shortly and posting about it when I'm done.

Before I go shots out to the President for calling out FOX News for what it really is...bullshit and propaganda.
Gotta Love Dead Prez...

[Smack's Video Opium - Patzer x 50 Cent x More]

Ah, yes. Another day full of random videos and such. It's a wonder how anyone is supposed to get any work done around this joint....
*insert Jaws dun-dun-dun*

Patzer

Patzer from StarWater on Vimeo.

I was put onto this short film from Lawrence Lamont Jenkins (who wrote and star in the film) by photographer Robin A. Collins (who had a part in the behind the scenes process) and Burn Rubber blogger extraordinaire Cliff Skighwalker. It's definitely thought provoking and entertaining at the same time and proves to be one of those tales where you're waiting for the down-on-his-luck guy to finally get a break in life. Here's the official synopsis...

“Patzer” tells the story of Max, a college student who cannot seem to shake off a bad day. His bad day begins when he cannot find his contacts, and instead, must wear a pair of glasses he has owned since he was in the sixth grade. As the day progresses, it is apparent that his roommate Sam has all of the day’s luck. The story covers many themes including the theme of the game Chess. It is revealed that a child is picking the same moves, over and over, dooming Max to day of loss. “Patzer” will inspire its audiences to make new choices if the same ones are not working; after all, one cannot progress if the necessary changes are not made.

50 Cent Unifies NY Hip-Hop (And Dusts Off Papoose)

Now the word "unification" doesn't really apply to Curtis Jackson at most...okay, at ALL time, but it seems that Mr. Gorilla Unit has finally something that he ain't done since he got into the game - bringing people together. Fif, along with G-Unit, brought together NY heavyhitters the Lox, the Diplomats (san Cam'ron), Cory Gunz, Red Cafe, Maino for one big music festival. Slaughterhouse and Wale were even along for the ride. Hell, they even unearthed Papoose and Uncle Murda. #wheretheydothatat? For more videos and of the festival and interviews head over to 2DopeBoyz [here] x [here].

But did you notice the Theo/Cliff Huxtable moment that Fif and Cory Gunz had at the begining? Just...precious.

Just For The Hell Of It: Felt (Murs X Slug) - Early Mornin' Tony

In celebration of the news that Murs and Slug are getting back into the lab for another Felt project (Felt, Vol. 3: A Tribute to Rosie Perez) and me rediscovering the comic book the accompanied Felt Vol. 2 by Jim Mahfood, I thought I'd put up the video for one of the songs from one of the albums that actually introduced me to Murs.

Just For The Hell Of It Pt. 2: Def Poetry Jam (The Jamie Foxx Edition)

Yeah, there's no real reason why I put this up here. Oh yeah there is...it's pretty damn hilarious. Jamie's been killing it lately with the Sirius radio show The Foxxhole and with the new movie, Law Abiding Citizen coming out soon with Gerald Butler. Seriously, 100x better than Booty Call ever was. Wow. Booty Call, who even bought that movie? HA!

*hides his copies of Booty Call and Bait*

*...reconsiders and puts Booty Call in the DVD player*

Don't judge me.
